The date palm research station was established in 1989 on a land area of 42 hectares and started its activities to study the compatibility of tropical trees, especially date palms. The reason for choosing the location of the station was the presence of suitable climate, vast lands, river water and variety of date palm cultivars in the region.
Abpakhsh, Saadabad, Doroodgah, Dalki, Vahdatiyeh and other date-producing areas of Dashtestan have been a place for harvesting various types of dates from the past to the present and the date palm research station was established due to the diversity of dates in this point and close to the mentioned areas.
In the date palm and tropical fruits research station, research activities are carried out in the field of date palm and other products such as sapodilla, ziziphus and olive.
At present, there are different collections of various types of date and ziziphus products in this station. There are 30 female date cultivars and 10 male palm cultivars in the station, which can be referred to the date cultivars of Barhi, Kabkab, Zahedi, Shahabi, Mozafati, Medjool and Deglet Noor. This station was established with the aim of focusing, improving and developing research activities, producing seedlings and mother plants from selected cultivars of date and tropical fruits and coordinating these activities with the most advanced agricultural researches of the world.
The existing gardens in the station with an area of about 25 hectares include Kabkab mother garden, Zahedi mother garden, Shahabi mother garden, foreign cultivars collection, comparative collection of domestic and foreign commercial cultivars, Barhi tissue culture plantation and foreign cultivars collection.
